We booked a 24 days Ethiopia tour, in the last days we visited Tigray with Haile and these last days were fantastic. An excellent guide and a real encyclopedia is this man, also very helpful, kind and open mind. We felt home in his house, enjoying the excellent Ethiopian coffee prepared by his wife. we had a wonderful time in Tigray, his hometown and full of the best experiences of the area, the church, and the stories.

We enjoyed a wonderful two day tour with Haileselassie. He arranged transport for us and collected us on time from our hotel, and showed us the ancient Abreha We Atsbeha first. This is Haileselassie’s favourite church and he really shared his passion for it. We then drove on to see Yohannes Maequdi and Debre Tsion the same day. The walking was hard work but Haileselassie was patient and encouraging and the views were incredible. The next day we saw the most famous churches, Abuna Yemata Guh and Maryam Korkor, Haileselassie suggested to see them on the second day and we were glad we did – the location and views were breathtaking and the church paintings unforgettable.

Because it was around Easter and we were staying in Wukro, Haileselassie recommended we go to Wukro Cherkos church to a see the church service, it goes all night and he met us and took us there before dawn. It was beautiful to participate in the celebrations. Afterwards he also took us to his house to meet his family, his wife made coffee for us in the Ethiopian style and we played with his son - we felt very welcome and lucky to be invited!

Haile Selassie was our guide for a 5 day trip to Mekele and Gheralta Rock. Our group had a 68 year old and a 4 year old and Haile Selassie was able to tailor the tour experience to ensure everyone had a great time. He knows a lot about the area and the churches, and everyone also seems to know him. He can provide detailed explanations of the history of each church as well as the paintings and carvings. We were very glad to have Haile Selassie as our guide in Tigray.
